Football is one of the world's most popular sports, with millions of fans around the globe passionately supporting their favourite teams week-in-week-out. Over the years, the game has seen a surge in corporate ownership and commercialization which has led to dramatic consequences and furthering concerns about the growing distance between fans and the clubs they love. Fan Owned Club is ensuring that its fans are in control.
Taking the community ownership model common in Europe, Fan Owned Club allows fans to own a piece of their own professional football club for less than many pay for a season ticket at their individual club.
‘Fan Owners’ get unprecedented access to and participation in key club operational and strategic decisions. Their aim is to develop their club into a truly global club, giving men and women players, coaches and executives an entry point and a home in European soccer, driving FCPS to become a recognisable name across North America, Europe and beyond.
FC Pinzgau Saalfelden was formed in 2007 after the merging of the town's two top football clubs. Rising up from the lower divisions, the Mountainous Pine Blues currently compete as one of 62 teams in Austria’s third tier, known as the Regionalliga. The club play at the stunning Saalfelden Arena with the dramatic backdrop of the Alps making it one of the most beautiful venues for football in Europe.
With a mantra of introducing exciting young loanees, alongside a core of experienced local Austrian talent, Fan Owned Club’s involvement in FCPS has pushed the club into becoming a promotion favourite.
After over four exciting years at the club, they are now levelling the playing field this spring with #ProjectAscend – a project that will offer six graduating women’s college football players the chance to continue playing the sport they love in the beautiful Austrian Alps.
With a new crest to unite the teams, a best-in-class training facility and moving the women’s matches to their main ground, they are ready to write the next chapter with help from those who want to move women and the game forward.
